MCCH CENTER FOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS FEBRUARY EVENTS

Murray-Calloway County Hospital will be offering several support groups, educational events and free screenings during the month of February. These events are offered free to everyone in our region.

Support Groups


The Freedom from Smoking Support Group will meet Tuesday, February 2, 9, 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Center for Health and Wellness. For more information, call 270-753-3381 to reserve your spot or ask any questions.

The Bariatric Support Group will meet Tuesday, February 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Center for Health and Wellness. For more info call Bariatric Solutions at 270-762-1547.

The Breastfeeding Support Group will meet Thursday, February 18 at 5 p.m. at the Center for Health and Wellness.

The Mental Illness (NAMI) Support Group for families and friends of persons suffering from mental illness will meet Thursday, February 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the MCCH Educational Building located on the corner of 8th and Elm streets.

The Stroke/Head Injury Support Group will meet Monday, February 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the Center for Health & Wellness. For more information, contact Cheryl at 270-293-9442.

Educational Events


An AARP Safe Driving Class will be held Wednesday, February 3 6 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness. Kentucky insurances must offer a discount to those who complete the class. Pre-registration is required and the class size is limited. A free education event titled “Plan to Be Tobacco Free” will be held Tuesday, February 18 from 5:30 -6:30 p.m. in the Center for Health and Wellness. The program will be presented by Jamie Smith with the Kentucky Cancer Program. Jamie will be presenting a FREE 60-min session to teach people how to be tobacco free. The class will address addiction, behaviors, available resources, and will help smokers develop a quit plan. Join the Center for Health and Wellness for a Nutrition Talk about Immunity Boosting Winter Nutrition on Friday, February 19 at 9 - 9:30 a.m. at the MCCH Center for Health & Wellness. It’s chilly outside and easy to get stuck in a food rut. We will discuss how to avoid those winter blues and keep you on track with foods to help you feel energized. We will also focus on how to avoid packing on those extra pounds during the “hibernation” months.

Give the gift of Life. The Center for Health and Wellness and The Murray Calloway County Hospital Blood Donor Center are hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, February 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Center for Health and Wellness. Take the time to stop by and give the gift of life. All blood donated through the MCCH Donor Center remains here to fill our community’s need.

Free Screenings

The screenings are free to the communities visited by Wellness Works and are provided to detect diseases in the earliest stages when there are often no symptoms.

Thursday, February 3 from 8 - 10 a.m. at the Marshall County Senior Center, 1713 Golf Course Road, Benton KY– Blood Pressure and Heel Scan screenings.

Wednesday, February 10 from 8 - 10 a.m. in the Spring Creek Health Care Station 3 Dining Room, 1401 South 16th Street, Murray – Blood Pressure, BMI, Heel Scan, Pulmonary Function and Waist Circumference screenings.

Tuesday, February 9 from 8 - 10 a.m. at Hickory Woods, 84 Utterback Rd, Murray KY-- Blood Pressure and Heel Scan screenings.
