MURRAY-CALLOWAY COUNTY HOSPITAL OFFERS FREE SCREENINGS, SUPPORT GROUPS AND EDUCATIONAL EVENTS

Murray-Calloway County Hospital will be offering several support groups, educational events and screenings during the month of July. These events are offered free to everyone in our region.

Support Groups


Bariatric Support Group on Thursday, July 7 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m at the Bariatric Solutions office and Tuesday, July 12 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Health and Wellness. For more info call Bariatric Solutions at 270-762-1547.

Breastfeeding Support Group on Thursday, July 21 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Health & Wellness.  For more information call Alycia Janow at 270.226.4776.

Dialysis Support Group on Tuesday, July 12 from 4 – 5 p.m. at the Center for Health & Wellness. For more information, contact Tasha Mitchell at 270-759-3080.

ALS Support Group on Thursday, July 14 from 6 – 7 p.m. at the MCCH Board Room. For more information, contact Mitzi Cathey at 270-293-1748.

National Alliance on Mental Illness on Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the MCCH Education Building (Corner of 8th and Elm). The group is for family and friends of someone diagnosed with a mental illness such as bi-polar, major depression, schizophrenia, OCD, panic disorder, PSTD, borderline personality disorder. Breast Cancer Support Group on Tuesday, July 26 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Health & Wellness. For more information, contact Evelyn at 270-489-2462.

Stroke and Head Injury Support on Monday, July 25 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the Center for Health & Wellness. For more information, contact Cheryl at 270-293-9442.

Educational Events


A free education event titled “Plan to Be Tobacco Free” will be held Thursday, July 21 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Center for Health and Wellness. The program will be presented by Tracy Tubbs with the Kentucky Cancer Program. Tracy will be presenting a FREE 60-min session to teach people how to be tobacco free. The class will address addiction, behaviors, available resources, and will help smokers develop a quit plan.

All tobacco users and non-tobacco users who would like to learn more are welcome.

Free Screenings


Saturday, July 9th from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 203 South 4th Street Murray, KY – Hgb A1C (Average 3 month blood sugar - no fasting required), Osteoporosis Heel Scan.

Wednesday, July 20 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness, 716 Poplar Street, Murray, KY – Blood Drive.  Come in and give the gift of life!

Thursday, July 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Weaks' Senior Citizen Health Fair, 607 Poplar Street, Murray, KY – Free Screenings, Health Education, Giveaways and More!


The screenings are free to the communities visited by Wellness Works and are provided to detect diseases in the earliest stages when there are often no symptoms.
