Nearly 140 golfers and 30 sponsors helped raise approximately $29,000 for the 3D mammography project, Because She Matters, at the sixth annual Murray Calloway Endowment for Healthcare Golf Classic Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Oaks Country Club.

At the end of the day, it was the ACE DESIGN (Keith Buck, Josh Burks, Becky English and Brian Epperson) team who took home the top prize award of $500 with a score of 52. Lunch was catered and donated by Sirloin Stockade for all of the golfers in the tournament!

Jason Elliott won the closest-to-the-pin contest for the men and Terri Pickens won the closest-to-the-pin contest for the women, Josh Burks won the longest drive contest for the males and Sherri Hecke won the longest drive contest for the females. The men’s longest drive and closest to the pin winner received a Sirloin stockade gift card; the women’s winner for longest drive and closest to the pin received a massage certificate from the Center for Health and Wellness.
“It was another great year at the tournament, with lots of familiar faces. One new face was PGA golf professional Nick Newcomb, who came and gave a free group lesson to our participants. Everyone really enjoyed the golf, the great weather and the Oaks course,” said Keith Travis, Vice President of Development at Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
The Because She Matters campaign has been launched to raise money for Tomosynthesis (3-D mammography) and Molecular breast imaging that will detect breast cancer earlier and more effectively. The initiative is set to raise $500,000 for the purchase of the equipment which would directly benefit patients within our community and surrounding area.
The golf tournament will be held again next year, with a tentative date of September 8, 2017. For more information on the Endowment or to make a donation, call (270) 762-1908 or visit www.MCCHEndowment.org.
