Maternity Care Tour
Even if you are not involved in the classes, you are
still invited to come to the hospital and tour the
labor, delivery, nursery and maternity areas. Our
Lactation Nurse will be your tour guide and will answer
any questions you may have.
The prepared childbirth classes consist of three
evening class sessions, usually taken four to six weeks
before the expected due date. The classes are held
monthly. These classes are designed to introduce you
and the support person of your choice to the various
stages of labor and what to expect at each stage.
Relaxation and breathing techniques to use during
labor, hospital routines and your coachís role are also
explored in depth. Classes meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
in the MCCH Cafeteria located in the North Tower/Poplar
Street Entrance on the 1st floor. Because we care
about the education of our patients and their families,
classes are free if you deliver at MCCH. If you deliver
elsewhere, there is a class fee of $70.
A very special one-session class to introduce
siblings to the idea of a new baby brother or sister is
also offered. Our instructor helps expectant brothers
and sisters explore their feelings about baby and
mother during momís pregnancy and after babyís birth.
The class also stresses to each sibling that they too
are special and important. They will also learn what a
new baby looks like, all the things babies do, how they
can hold and play with baby and how much fun it is to
be a big brother or sister. A visit to Murray-Calloway
County Hospitalís maternity unit, including momís room
and the nursery is a popular highlight of this class.
The class is held every three months from 7 p.m. to 8
p.m. in the Private Dining Room next to the cafeteria. The class is free
of charge to those delivering at MCCH and $40.00 if you
are delivering elsewhere.
A class to "re-introduce" grandparents to baby care
is offered once every three months. The class is from 7
p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Private Dining Room next to the
Topics include feeding, diapering, bathing, infant
safety and child development. The class is free of
charge if the mom is going to deliver at MCCH.
