Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)
MBSAQIP is a comprehensive, nationwide surgical quality program aimed at ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery. Surgical outcomes focus on weight loss and the treatment of obesity-related diseases, like diabetes, sleep apnea, and others. Research shows accredited centers experience lower complications, and better outcomes than that of non-accredited facilities.

Brian Swain, MD
Bariatrics, General Surgery
With over 15 years of experience in bariatric surgery at Murray Calloway County Hospital, Dr. Brian Swain is committed to helping patients transform their lives by providing quality weight loss procedures with proven results. Gastric Sleeve and Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass are performed laparoscopically, which is less invasive and typically reduces the patient's length of hospital stay. Dr. Swain, a General and Bariatric Surgeon, has completed thousands of bariatric surgeries since 2008. He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville in 1998 and completed his surgical residency at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Dr. Swain has resided in Murray since 2003 and practices as a general and bariatric surgeon.
Nick Johnson, APRN
Bariatrics
Johnson obtained his Master’s degree from Chamberlain University and his undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Murray State University. He has worked as a Registered Nurse in the Surgery Dept. at MCCH since 2010 in various roles including a Registered Nurse on the med/surg unit, in the role of the circulating nurse in surgery, as well as, in outpatient surgery and in the post-anesthesia care unit. Before his time as a RN he worked as an ED technician beginning in 2008.
