MURRAY, KY – Murray-Calloway County Hospital is pleased to welcome Mary Behrens as the newest addition to our Pastoral Services.

Chaplain Behrens received her Master of Divinity from the Wesleyan Seminary at Indiana Wesleyan University and has completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education, totaling to over 1,600 hours of training. Before that she received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Counseling from Mid-Continent University.

She previously worked as a Case Manager for Four Rivers Behavioral Health and as a Chaplain at Mercy Health in Paducah. Outside of her work as a Chaplain at Murray-Calloway County Hospital, Chaplain Behrens also serves as a pastor at Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church in Murray.

Chaplain Beherns plans to complete her national board certification over the next two years. When asked how she can support those of diverse faiths, cultures, and belief systems, Chaplain Behrens said, “We are provided with the training and understanding that every person does not have the same faith, but we do provide services from our faith foundation. Chaplains may not all share the same faith, but we minster out of our own faith and connect as human beings. We can provide love, kindness, joy, and peace from our faith foundation for our patients.” Chaplain Behrens went on to say, “My goal is to serve the community with compassion, kindness, and the heart of a servant.”

If a patient or patient’s family would like Pastoral Services to stop by, they just need to let their nurse or provider know and that staff member will put in for a consultation. Like to know more about Pastoral Services at MCCH, call 270-762-1274 or 270-762-1209.
