MURRAY, KY – The Murray-Calloway County Hospital Emergency Department recently completed the National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) assessment, earning an exceptional score of 96 out of 100 – an increase from the department’s previous score of 94 and well above the Kentucky state average of 71, as well as national averages.

The NPRP assessment evaluates emergency departments on their readiness to care for pediatric patients, including specialized policies, equipment, staff training, and emergency response systems tailored to children’s needs. Nationally, the average score among participating hospitals is 82, while hospitals with similar pediatric volumes average 83.

This achievement reflects a true hospital-wide effort, with departments across the organization, from the Emergency Department to Radiology, Laboratory, Security, and many others – all working together toward one shared goal: ensuring every child who comes through our doors receives safe, high-quality emergency care.

The score also highlights the dedication of hospital leadership and staff who continue to strengthen pediatric emergency preparedness through ongoing education, training, and simulation exercises.

This milestone marks an important step toward becoming officially designated as “Pediatric Ready” by Kentucky EMS for Children and reinforces MCCH’s commitment to providing exceptional care close to home for children and families throughout our community.
