SUPPORT GROUPS

Support GroupTalking about issues or concerns in a supportive and confidential environment can help with the learning, healing or coping process. Murray Hospital offers support groups on a number of topics.

ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Support

Alzheimer’s Support Groups (Benton and Murray)
Build a support system with people who understand. The Alzheimer’s caregiver support group is conducted by trained facilitators, and are a safe place for caregivers, family and friends of persons with dementia. Meetings are offered monthly.  Contact Teresa Thompson, Geriatric Behavioral Health Community Educator for more information, 270.762.1224.

Murray Chapter – Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, at 10:00 a.m., at the Weaks’ Senior Center.  

Benton Chapter – Meeting are held on the first Wednesday of each month, at 10:00 a.m., at the Marshall County Public Library.

Bariatric Support Group
The Bariatric Support Group is for those who have undergone, or will be undergoing, bariatric surgery. Please call Bariatric Solutions at 270.762.1547 for more information.

Breast Cancer Support
A place for those who have battled, or are currently battling breast cancer. Provides an opportunity to met with individuals who have had similar experiences in order to give and receive support. There is no cost and registration is not required.

Breastfeeding Support Group
This is a federal program that is funded by WIC. The support group offers mother to mother support, facts about Breastfeeding and breast milk, changes in the mother’s body, how to build confidence, how to overcome obstacles, and support for working mothers. There is no cost and registration is not required.  Call Alycia Janow at 270.762.1562 for more information.

Compassionate Friends
This group is for bereaved parents who have lost a child from birth to an adult child. Held on the 4th Thursday of each month (January – October) in the Dalton Conference Room, across from the Cancer Center at the 9th Street entrance. Grief Recovery Outreach Program
An 8 week class scheduled for Winter (Jan – Feb), spring (March – May) and Fall (September – November).  Contact MCCH Chaplain Kerry Lambert at 270.762.1274.

Mental Illness (NAMI) Support
This group is for family and friends of someone diagnosed with a mental illness such as bi-polar, major depression, schizophrenia, OCD, panic disorder, PTSD, or borderline personality disorder. For more information call Susan Phillips at 270.748.6133

Parkinson’s Disease Support Group
The Parkinson’s Disease Support Group meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 11:00 am (eat at 11:30 am) for lunch and the meeting at 12:00 pm (usually with a speaker) in the Kelleher Room–for more information call 270.753.0929.

Stroke/Head Injury Support
A supportive environment for families, or individuals, who have experience or who are currently experiencing, the life changing impacts of stroke or head injury to meet and share support. Registration is not required and there is no cost. For more information, contact Cheryl at 270.293.9442.
