MURRAY, KY – Murray-Calloway County Hospital (MCCH) recently celebrated the retirement of longtime Laboratory team member Bruce Rives, Med Tech, ASCP, recognizing 18 years of dedicated service to the hospital.

Throughout his career at MCCH, Rives served as a Medical Technologist in the Laboratory, working behind the scenes to provide accurate and timely testing that plays an essential role in patient diagnosis and care. Nearly two decades, he became known among his teammates not only for his strong work ethic and dependability, but also for his willingness to lend a hand whenever and wherever it was needed.

During his 18 years at MCCH, Rives witnessed many seasons of change and some of the most challenging moments faced by the hospital and the region. From serving throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the devastating Mayfield tornado, to weathering the January ice storm, Rives remained committed to supporting his team and ensuring patients continued to receive the care they needed. Bruce recalled spending nearly a week at the hospital during the ice storm when hazardous conditions prevented him from making it home. That willingness to step up is something his coworkers say has defined Rives throughout his career at MCCH. His generosity extended well beyond his responsibilities in the Laboratory.

“When I moved to Murray to start work at the hospital, Bruce graciously volunteered to help me move,” one teammate shared. “He’s always the first to offer to help and has such a giving heart.”

As he closes this chapter of his career, Rives is looking forward to trading his work schedule for a little more freedom and plenty of time with family. “I plan to get caught up on lots of projects at home, spend time with the grandkids, a little bit of fishing, and maybe doing a little traveling,” Rives said. “I’m really looking forward to enjoying my leisure and waking up on my own schedule!”

MCCH extends its sincere appreciation to Bruce Rives for 18 years of faithful service, hard work, and friendship.
