MURRAY, KY – Murray-Calloway County Hospital (MCCH) recently hosted the West Kentucky Pediatric Care Symposium, at the Graves County Cooperative Extension Service in Mayfield, bringing together healthcare professionals from across the region for a day of education and collaboration.

The event welcomed physicians, nurses, and other pediatric specialists representing 17 counties for a series of educational presentations on a wide range of pediatric topics including pediatric sepsis, abusive head trauma and burn care.

Guest speakers included experts from Norton Children’s Hospital, the Vanderbilt Medical Burn Center, and Murray-Calloway County Hospital. Speakers presenting included Dr. Karen Orman, Abby Bailey, MPA, NR, Dr. Deeyar Jubran, Dr. Melissa Currie, Kristen Riley, APRN, Dr. Anne Wagner, Dr. Taylor Gilbert, Dr. Jackie Milo and Morgan Scaggs, program administrator of KY EMSC.

“Providing high quality pediatric education to clinicians in rural areas is essential – especially in light of the growing shortage of practicing pediatricians and the decline in available inpatient pediatric beds. The event marked a significant step in strengthening the network of pediatric providers and clinicians throughout Western Kentucky and reinforcing the region’s capacity to deliver advanced, compassionate care to children and families,” said Kim Simmons, RN, Pediatric Symposium Coordinator.
