On January 15, 2020, Murray-Calloway County Hospital and Anthem, Inc. reached a contractual agreement that will allow Anthem insurance subscribers to remain in-network with the local facility.

The largest insurance company in the nation, Anthem has approximately 40 million subscribers.  The hospital and Anthem have been in negotiations for several months.  As part of typical contract negotiations, the hospital sent a notice of termination of their existing contract to Anthem in August 2019 that was to become effective on February 15, 2020. Anthem and MCCH have since reached a mutual agreement.   

“As indicated from the very start, we view Anthem as a long-term partner with our hospital. We understand there were people in the community that experienced some level of angst about the uncertainty of this process so we are pleased to announce successful culmination of our negotiations well ahead of the potential termination.  From the outset, we were quite confident that we would reach an agreement that was in the best interests of both organizations and most importantly, for the patients we collectively serve,” said Jerry Penner, CEO, Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
