MURRAY, KY – Murray Calloway County Hospital (MCCH) Emergency Department staff recently participated in a series of immersive emergency simulation trainings designed to strengthen readiness, communication, and performance during high-stakes clinical situations.

The Norton Children’s Hospital Simulation Team led pediatric-focused simulations centered on the recognition and management of anaphylaxis, providing hands-on opportunities for staff to sharpen critical assessment and intervention skills.

Labor and Delivery Educator Abby Hammitt guided participants through obstetric emergency scenarios involving hypertension and postpartum hemorrhage, reinforcing best practices in rapid-response maternal care. Emergency Department physician Dr. Josh Clark also facilitated sessions focused on code team organization and effective communication during emergency events.

Respiratory Therapy staff participated alongside Emergency Department personnel, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration and reinforcing their vital role in emergency response efforts.

In addition to the Emergency Department training sessions, the Norton Children’s Simulation Team extended pediatric emergency simulation training to inpatient staff on the fifth floor, further expanding preparedness across the organization.

To ensure broad participation, these hands-on simulation experiences are offered across multiple sessions, allowing all Emergency Department staff the opportunity to engage in the training. The simulations are designed to build confidence, improve clinical readiness, and enhance patient outcomes – especially for the hospital’s most vulnerable patients.

MCCH Simulation Coordinator Calla Marshall and Simulation Specialist Carlos Lopez played an integral role in planning and executing the training events.
